BSA 206 - Richard Williams

Richard Williams was an animator and the art director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He was a man with a huge ambition. To create a masterpiece. In 1964 he began working on an animation that in his terms was to be his masterpiece. The only issue is Richard had too much of an eye to detail, which caused setbacks and delays galore. He continued working on this film for 26 years. This was until he struck a deal with Warner Bros. then failed to deliver. Some of the content of his film was adapted to influence the creation of the movie Arabian Nights.

2000s animation started to go into the depths of the human mind. A primary method used during this time was Rotoscoping. Rotoscoping was the process of painting over moving images. In the early 2000s a man by the name of Bob Sabistan created a program called Rotoshop. It was intended to be used to Rotoscope more efficiently. And it did. Over the 2000s this process led to films such as A Scanner Darkly and the animated documentary Ryan. Review Ryan Ryan is a short documentary about Chris Landreth interviewing Ryan Larkin. Ryan was a former successful animator who had fallen into ruin. The animatyion constantly shows a beautiful but dark tale of mental faults. The sequences often end up in restricting animations causing the viewer to think about how 'Trapped' the subjects are. Overall as it progresses it gets more twisted, with things like Ryan talking about his alcohol problem, and why he doesn't do work any more.
